Camera positions for cricket

  • Behind the bowler's arm, high: the main view of every ball. Swap ends with the bowling end if you can, or stay at one end for the whole match.
  • Side-on near square leg: shows the shot and the running between the wickets.
  • Wide or roaming: the whole ground, fielders, the crowd and celebrations.

What to take to the ground

  • A tall tripod or a stand for the main phone, so heads in front do not block the view.
  • Power banks or a power point: a full match is long, and streaming uses a lot of battery.
  • Mobile data with a good upload on the production phone, or a Wi-Fi hotspot the camera phones can share.
  • Shade for the phones on hot days, so they do not overheat.

Keep the stream going

Choose 720p if the mobile network at the ground is weak and keep Auto quality on: Stream-It lowers the bitrate instead of freezing. Show Be right back during breaks and keep recording on, because the recording on the phone continues even if the internet drops.

Key facts about Stream-It

Questions people ask

Can I live stream a cricket match from my phone?

Yes. Put one phone behind the bowler's arm, install Stream-It, log in and go live to YouTube or Facebook. Add more phones as cameras for side-on and wide views when you have them.

How many phones do I need for a cricket live stream?

One phone is enough to start. Two or three give a much better show: one straight behind the bowler, one side-on at square leg, and one wide or roaming for the crowd and celebrations.

How do I put the cricket score on the stream?

Type the runs, wickets and overs into a text overlay and update it each over, or add a live scoreboard page from your scoring website as a web page overlay.

Can I stream to YouTube and Facebook at the same time?

Yes. Turn on both before you go live and the same show goes to both from one phone. Other platforms work with their RTMP or RTMPS server address and stream key.

Do the camera phones need mobile data?

Not if they share the same Wi-Fi (for example a hotspot) with the production phone: cameras on the same Wi-Fi need no internet. Only the production phone needs a connection to send the stream.
